Democratic Practice
TEHRAN Iran's Deputy Interior Minister for Political and Social Affairs
Tajzadeh told the German ambassador here Tuesday that the upcoming elections
for the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) would leave its impact on the
policy line of the government.

Tajzadeh who is also head of the National Elections Headquarters said that
both Iranians and foreigners were showing great interest and curiosity in the
upcoming elections in Iran.
As a token of the interest of the international community in the Majlis
elections in Iran, he said that since a few weeks ago his ministry had
received an average of 500 visa requests from foreign journalists daily.

Head of Iran's National Elections Headquarters emphasized that the
headquarters equally respected all Majlis candidates irrespective of their
political or partisan orientation, and added that the business of the
headquarters is to ensure healthy elections .

He said the headquarters would do its utmost to protect the rights of all
candidates running for the Majlis, and commented that Iranians had steadily
become more politically sophisticated over the past two decades despite the
fact that they had practiced participating in the political affairs of the
their country for only as little as 20 years.

The German ambassador, too, acknowledged the importance of the upcoming
Majlis elections and observed that Germany and the whole of Europe are keenly
watching democratic progress in Iran.
