July 13, 1999

Solidarity Committee with Students Movement for Democracy in Iran will
hold a march in Washington DC, to ptotest recent attack on the student
movement at Tehran University. The Islamic Republic of Iran and its
forces, especially the Ansar Hezbollah (Islamic Militia), are responsible
for viciously attacking the students in their dormitories, and has
repeatedly in the past year violated all basic rights of the Iranian
people.

The new law passed in the conservative assembly puts more restrictions on
the civil rights of the People of Iranian. Human Rights organizations a
nd their representatives are denied access to visit the prisons and
attend any trial being held behind closed door. As a signatory to the
United Nations Charter, The Iranian government has violated every single
article of this charter.

We are requesting from the United Nations to condemn the Islamic Republic
of Iran for its abusive acts against its own civilians and to bring to
justice those responsible for murdering innocent people.

Date: Saturday July 17, 1999
Time: 3:30 PM

Place of Gathering: George Washington University-Funger Hall, "G" Street
between 22nd and 23rd Street NW Washington DC

For further information please call (703) 319-1807.

Note: After a meeting of one hour, the participants will start a rally
toward Lafayette Park.

Information Ministry's Complaint
Against Salam'

TEHRAN The Information Ministry in a
statement recently has withdrawn its
complaint against the Persian daily
Salam which was lodged previously for
publishing secret documents relating
to the ministry.

It is said that the Head of
Presidential Office Mohammad Ali Abtahi and a
member of Supreme Security Council
Ali Rabiee arranged the statement.

Differences Between SSC, OCU

TEHRAN It is said that differences
have been emerged between the Sit-in
Students Committee (SSC) and the
Office for Consolidation of Unity (OCU). The
reason behind the differences is
that the committee was to pursue the unrest
which erupted during the recent
students gatherings, but, the office is to hold a
news conference in this regard
today.

Interfere in Judicial Affairs

TEHRAN A Culture and Islamic
Guidance Ministry official has called on
Judiciary to overlook the daily
Salaam's fault. The official admitted that the daily
has made a mistake. The Judiciary
official in turn told him that in a country
whose officials always stress on
abiding to law, the government should not
interfere in the judicial affairs.

Nabavi's Statement Without
Coordination With 15 Groups

TEHRAN TIMES CITY DESK
TEHRAN "A statements apparently
released by 15 political groups calling for a
gathering last Wednesday was in fact
masterminded by Behzad Nabavi without
coordinations with those groups," an
informed source said yesterday.

According to the source, Nabavi made
the coordinations with Islamic Republic
News Agency (IRNA) instead and the
statement was aired through on IRNA. He
said that no consultations have been
made with heads of the 15 groups on release
of the statement and it became a
source of concern for them.
